99 Cents

So now I have 17 readers... or at least readers who checked out sample pages of SEEK WHEN ALONE. But no actual sales yet. So I just lowered the price to 99 cents, hoping it'll encourage people to actually buy it. :)

14 readers can't be wrong?

Okay, so SEEK WHEN ALONE has been up for a few days now--and so far about 14 people have checked out the sample pages via Smashwords (where 50% of the manuscript is free) but no one's actually bought a copy yet.... So maybe $1.99 is too high a price for a brand new author, or maybe 50% is too large for a free sample (given that the novel is almost 400 pages long in print form). Or I guess it's possible that readers aren't enjoying the book enough to want to read more--which is kind of depressing! Anyway, guess I have to figure out a way to spread the word somehow. Having only 14 (non-paying) readers is probably pretty dismal, but again, I remain optimistic! As an obsessed Stephen King and Dean Koontz fan, I'm pretty sure I've written a good horror/thriller--but I'll only know for sure if people buy it and review it. As always, I'm taking suggestions about how to promote the book...

Smashwords, Kindle, and J.A. Konrath

Ok, so my thriller SEEK WHEN ALONE has been posted for roughly 24 hours on Smashwords, and it's already had 6 people check out sample pages. No actual sales yet, but I figure it's good that at least a few people are reading it already. And I haven't done any actual promotion yet. Surely things can only go upwards from here :)

I also wanted to add that in writing my book, getting it ready for publication, and posting it via Smashwords and at Amazon, I found J.A. Konrath's blog about publishing INCREDIBLY helpful. It really is a vital resource that he's got going over there. So check it out if you're curious about the writing and publication process.

Here's the Amazon page for the book, and here's a plot synopsis:

A brash young lawyer and his troubled sister attend an old friend's wedding at an isolated mansion in the Pacific Northwest. The mansion is crumbling, the bride's family is creepy, and the lawyer begins to suspect that his friend might be under the influence of supernatural forces. The lawyer and the other guests soon find themselves imprisoned in the decaying mansion, and they must use their wits to battle their mysterious assailants, protect each other, and escape with their lives and their sanity. Recommended for readers who like Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Anne Rice, Clive Barker, John Grisham, and Dan Simmons.

My novel "Seek When Alone" available now!

So I just posted my debut thriller SEEK WHEN ALONE at Smashwords.com (which means it's available in all digital formats for $1.99!) This is kind of an experiment for me. The book was inspired by my love of Stephen King, John Grisham, Anne Rice, and Dean Koontz.

Here's a very brief plot synopsis:

"A brash young lawyer attends an old friend's wedding at an isolated mansion in the Pacific Northwest. The mansion is crumbling, the bride's family is creepy, and the lawyer begins to suspect that his friend might be under the influence of supernatural forces. The lawyer and the other guests soon find themselves imprisoned in the decaying mansion, and they must use their wits to battle their mysterious assailants, protect each other, and escape with their lives and their sanity."

The book also contains some cool action sequences, a romance, and tons of suspense.

I hope you check it out and let me know what you think!
